Happy Monday, Gainesville.

Quick update from me before we dive into all the fun news from the weekend: Writing the Scoop has been such a blast, and I’m loving all your kind replies and feedback! 🎉 After two weeks of getting into the groove, I’ve realized the best way to bring you the juiciest content is by spreading it out. So, starting now, expect the Scoop in your inbox on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!
Stay tuned for all the latest, and thanks for being here 💌
🌡️ Monday: High is 92°F and Low is 68° with 0% chance of rain ☀️ , Tuesday: High is 91°, low of 68° with 5% chance of rain ☀️
📰 The General Scoop:
🏘️ Students Build: Students at Santa Fe College teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to build their 15th home for Alachua County residents in need. Santa Fe has long had a great building construction program and we love to see when folks are building (quite literally) a better community!
🏌️That eyesore will cost you: Meadowbrook Golf Course, closed since Hurricane Elsa's 2021 flooding, is facing serious code violations. Alachua County slapped a $500 daily fine and a second lien on the property for overgrown grass and general neglect. The owner, Christopher Marcum, says he didn’t know about the latest hearing but confirmed the course is permanently closed and under contract for sale. With over $30K already in fines, the clock’s ticking—he’s got 30 days to clean it up, or the county may step in and charge the costs to his property taxes. Rough day on the green, for sure.
🏢 Business News:
🧪 Kincell Bio Expands in GNV: Kincell Bio is expanding its Gainesville operations with a new multi-year partnership to manufacture cutting-edge cell therapies for degenerative diseases. According to CEO Bruce Thompson, the Gainesville facility is "GMP-ready" and primed to support clinical development for patients in need. With this new contract, Kincell is making strides in regenerative medicine, boosting both local jobs and medical innovation. Go Gainesville! P.S. I had to look up what “GMP-ready” meant. In case you didn’t know… "GMP-ready" refers to a facility or system that meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, which are guidelines enforced by regulatory agencies like the FDA
🏅 Sports News:
Gators Overcome the Cowbells: The Gators hit the road and silenced the cowbells in Starkville. Florida football powered through Mississippi State with 503 total yards of offense to secure a 45-28 victory. Quarterbacks Graham Mertz and DJ Lagway shined in a two-QB system, spreading the love to 10 different receivers despite key injuries. While the offense was on point, UF’s defense had some shaky moments, giving up 480 yards to the Bulldogs, with 240 on the ground. The Gators are now 2-2.
Volleyball picks up two W’s: Gator volleyball picked up two wins this weekend both in 3-0 style sweeps against North Texas and Buffalo. The Gators are ready for SEC play to begin soon, and move to 9-2 on the season.
Gator Soccer loses heartbreaker to 6th ranked Tigers: In a hard-fought SEC matchup, the Florida Gators women's soccer team lost 1-0 to No. 6 Auburn on Sunday. Auburn scored the only goal in the second half, helping the Tigers secure their first SEC win of the season. Despite some solid defensive work by the Gators, including multiple offsides drawn against Auburn, Florida couldn't capitalize offensively.
